Assistance with Daily Life — Household Tasks
Practical help around the house — cleaning, laundry, shopping and meal prep — so your home stays a place you can relax in.
There’s a particular kind of stress that comes from looking at a kitchen you can’t manage. Domestic assistance takes that off the list.
A support worker comes on a regular schedule and works through the tasks you’ve agreed on. Not a generic clean — your home, your standards, your way of doing things. If the towels go a certain way, they go that way.
Cleaning — bathrooms, kitchen, floors, surfaces, dusting, and the jobs that get away from people.
Laundry — washing, hanging, folding, putting away, ironing, bed linen.
Meals — cooking with you or for you, batch cooking meals to freeze, and shopping to a list you’ve set. If you want to be involved in the cooking, you should be; a lot of people use this as a way to keep a skill going rather than hand it over.
Shopping and errands — groceries with you or on your behalf, plus chemist, post office and the rest.
Domestic assistance falls apart when it’s a different person every fortnight who doesn’t know where anything lives. We roster for continuity: the same worker, the same day, the same time, so it becomes something you stop having to think about.
When your regular worker is away, we’ll tell you in advance who’s coming and make sure they’ve been briefed on how you like things done.
Someone working in your house is in your private space. That means: arriving when we said we would, telling you if we’re running late, asking before moving things, and never treating your home as a job site. We take this seriously and we’d rather hear about it early if we get it wrong.
Domestic assistance sits under Assistance with Daily Life in the Core Supports budget, usually described as household tasks. Core Supports funding is flexible, so you can adjust hours as your needs change without going back to the NDIA.
Send us your plan and we’ll show you exactly which part of it this comes from.
